Impact Terra

Through a mobile application, web application and Facebook page the Golden Paddy Platform provides digital services to smallholder farmers and organisations. Through ICT it is able to connect, collect and deliver services in the agricultural value chain. Leveraging mobile technology it is also able to collect data and provide insights. Golden Paddy increases crop production through the sharing of leading agricultural knowledge and specific, real-time recommendations, expands markets connections and opportunities and facilitates access to improved (formal) financing opportunities for smallholder farmers.

UX Designer

At Impact Terra we are looking for a sharp UX (User Experience) Designer to lead our Golden Paddy platform to the next level, and beyond. The potential candidate has, above all, a strong interest for digital products and solutions in emerging markets. Our product, Golden Paddy, is meant to address the needs, requests and wishes of smallholder farmers in Myanmar. 

The target user of our product is a rural user with peculiar characteristics, such as: lives in remote areas, has limited prior exposure to digital products, has intermittent access to the internet and/or electricity. The ambitious goal the UX Designer has to commit to is to drive the development of a product that leverages cutting-edge ICT technologies keeping entry barriers as low as possible, for the easiest adoption by our users.

Finding out what are the needs, requests, and wishes of the smallholder farmers in Myanmar is the key responsibility of the UX Designer. He/She will be based in Yangon but required to regularly plan and attend field trips in our focus areas, to directly interact with our users and improve our product and services.

Additionally, the UX Designer should be able to independently gather and/or interpret data and information such as: product performances, user and usage data, reports about trends and drivers in digital agriculture, studies on local culture and habits. Such knowledge has to be translated, over time, into the most intuitive UI and meaningful UX for the smallholder farmers in Myanmar.

Responsibilities

  • Be in contact and understand our user on a deep level.

  • Plan, manage, attend field trips to our focus areas in Myanmar, with colleagues from Yangon office or together with our field team.

  • Propose creative solutions to design problems, from ideation to specification and budget definition, with wireframes, user stories, and prototypes.

  • Write detailed reports about the learning gained by being in contact with the users, suggesting how to translate such insight into product improvements and new features

  • Design and run market research surveys and user-feedback sessions to uncover assumptions, test ideas and confirm insights.

  • Research and understand user needs – with farmers, clients,internal teams and other stakeholders.

  • Propose effective UI/UX solutions to be developed in collaboration with the development team.

  • Support the long-term vision and strategy for the Golden Paddy platform

  • Support the tech team in designing, developing and testing new features and improvements.

Requirements

  • Based in Yangon, Myanmar.

  • Relevant working experience in the field.

  • Strong ICT skills and analytical mindset.

  • Highly organized and able to prioritize tasks.

  • Familiarity with Firebase and Google Analytics is an advantage.

Soft skills

  • Strong in English language, plus if speaks Burmese.

  • Highly motivated to learn and pick up new skills

  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
